The old saying is that if you build it, they will come.

Well, during the 2020 season Major League Baseball will head to the “Field of Dreams” site in Iowa with the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox playing the first-ever MLB game where the film was set in Dyersville, Iowa.

Chicago will be the home team for the game that will be played on Thursday August 13. The remainder of the series will be played over the weekend at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago.

The "Field of Dreams" game will technically not be played on the original field from the 1989 film, as MLB intends to build a new 8,000-seat stadium due to the lack of seating and the dimensions at the original.

Construction on the field will begin over the next week and will have a layout that will pay homage to Comiskey Park, the home of the White Sox from 1910-90, which featured “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, Chick Gandil, Seddie Cicotte, and Swede Risberg. All of those names were featured as characters in the film and played integral roles in the 1919 Black Sox scandal.

The new park will be larger than BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field, which has hosted MLB games for the Little League Classic, seating 2,366 fans.

"As a sport that is proud of its history linking generations, Major League Baseball is excited to bring a regular-season game to the site of 'Field of Dreams,'" league commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement.”

"We look forward to celebrating the movie’s enduring message of how baseball brings people together at this special cornfield in Iowa."
