The New Orleans Pelicans have won the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery which means they will get Zion Williamson.

New Orleans beat the odds to win the lottery for the first time since 2012, when they chose Anthony Davis. The win comes at a great time for the franchise after Davis requested a trade during the 2018-19 campaign.

Memphis will choose second, New York third and the Los Angeles Lakers will make the fourth selection of the draft on Thursday, June 20.

Williamson said he has never been to New Orleans, however that all may change soon for the Duke product who was nervous heading into the lottery show, saying it was “a lot to take in.”

With the Pelicans getting the first overall pick, it could appeal to Davis to stick around with Williamson likely coming to New Orleans.

However, shortly after the draft order was announced, reports came out that Davis’ stance on wanting out of New Orleans had not changed.

The notion of a trade is not a done deal though as new president of basketball operations David Griffin has already had talks with Davis’ representatives in hopes of changing Davis’ mind. Williamson would complement Davis’ play. Davis has the ability to step away from the basket which would give Williamson the room to dive as a roll man. It would also up some pick and roll situations between the two which would likely be difficult to stop.

With Davis’ size and Williamson’s athleticism, it would allow the New Orleans to guard pretty much any team in the Association.

In just 30 minutes per game, Williamson averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks with Duke. He shot a ridiculous 68 percent from the field and 74.7 percent from two-point range.

Basically, Williamson could potentially be one of those few players to ever play that can alter the future of any organization.
