The Marauders returned to volleyball action on Sunday at the North American Challenge, facing the University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos.

On Saturday night McMaster were out played by the Long Beach State 49ers but the men got their game back against a team that they matched up well against. Unfortunately, for the team from Hamilton, Ontario, they came out on the losing end once again, going five sets.

The Mac men jumped out to an early two sets to none lead by winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25-23. However, from there Santa Barbara took over winning the next three sets 27-25, 25-20 and 15-13.

Andrew Richards was back to his normal self, posting 20 points in the match. Nathan Delguidice, who has been a rock so far this season on the court, finished with 17.5 points. The duo would also lead the squad clad in maroon in kills with 18 and 16 respectively.

A day earlier, the Marauders had a hitting percentage of minus-.014 and scored 25 points. But on Sunday their hitting percentage was .205 and scored 76.5 points.

Defensively, the Gauchos out-blocked the Marauders 14.5 to 6.5 with Josh Ecklund leading the way with a block and two block assists while his rookie Mac teammates Tyler Pavelic and Pearson Stiller each were credited with three block assists.

McMaster will return to the court twice on Monday before heading back to Canada. They are scheduled to take on Santa Barbara first at 3:00 PM Eastern and then close out the North American Challenge against Long Beach State at 8:00 PM Eastern.

Long Beach and the Marauders were schedule to play on Sunday as well but was changed to a scrimmage where both coaches were able to share their wisdom to the other team to help both teams get better with different philosophies in the game.
