Marauders’ Soccer Teams Drop First Games Of Season

The McMaster Marauders soccer teams made their first trips off campus in OUA action on Saturday.

Unfortunately, for both the women’s and men’s teams they would each pick up their first losses of the season against the Western Mustangs.

The women started off the day’s action. Both McMaster and Western had some good chances but it was the Mustangs’ Sabrina Denard who scored the only goal of the game. The lady Marauders would put four shots on net while Western put four of their eight shots on net with goalkeeper Deanna Persico making four saves.

The loss drops the women’s record to 0-1-2 on the year.

In the Men’s match, Western would score twice in the first half on their way to a 2-1 win over McMaster. The two goals were the first two allowed by the team this year.

In the 81st minute Sasha Ricciuti, last week’s Pita Pit Male Athlete of the week, scored his first goal this season for the Marauders to cut Western’s lead in half. McMaster would apply pressure the rest of the game but were unable to toe the game up in the dying moments to drop their record to 2-1-0.

Both teams will return to their home turf at Ron Joyce Stadium on Sunday afternoon to host the Windsor Lancers. The Women’s game will kick off at 1:00 pm with the Men’s game following at approximately 3:00 pm.

Gotta love the soccer

glad to see a soccer story

Europe, South America and the States all can't be wrong, I'm sure it will catch on in canada

Too bad for them, but happy that soccer season has started. Still not a very popular sport in Canada but that will change
