It wasn’t the loudest ovation of the night, that was saved for when the final horn went, but the next loudest ovation went to somebody who wasn’t even on the ice.

It has been just over two weeks since the tragic bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team that took the lives of 16 people and left 12 others injured. One member of the team who was lucky to walk away from the accident was Matthieu Gomercic.

Friday night, the 20-year old and his family were in attendance for Game 5 of the series between the Minnesota Wild and the Winnipeg Jets where he received a massive standing ovation from Jets fans when he was welcomed to the game and shown on the big screen.

Hundreds of thousands of people contributed to the Humboldt Broncos’ official GoFundMe page which raised over $15 million in just 12 days, making it the second largest GoFundMe campaign of all-time and the largest in Canada.
